ROCKLAND, NY – Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick joined Sheriff Louis Falco, Undersheriff Robert Van Cura, and and others in law enforcement at the Rockland County Police and Public Safety Academy to announce state grant funding he has secured to support law enforcement officer training.
Senator Reichlin-Melnick said, “Rockland County was recently ranked the third safest county in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, and that didn’t happen by accident. Our law enforcement officers are out there 24 hours a day doing everything they can to keep our communities safe. Working to bring money back to the district is one of the most important things that I can do to help. In my first term, I have returned over $12 million dollars of taxpayer money to fund projects in our district like this one that we are highlighting today at the Rockland County Police and Public Safety Academy.”
Sheriff Falco said, “The Senator came to me and asked what he could do to enhance public safety in Rockland County. He has always reached out and been pro-law enforcement. On behalf of myself, the police chiefs of Rockland County, and all of law enforcement throughout the Hudson Valley, thank you very much Senator for bringing this grant funding forward, and enabling us to use it in a positive way for many years to come.”
On Monday, the Senator presented a symbolic check for a $75,000 grant to purchase and install equipment that is part of a new state-of-the-art fitness training facility at the Rockland Police and Public Safety Academy that will benefit new recruits and in-service officers from departments throughout Rockland and beyond. The Sheriff and Senator announced that an additional $75,000 grant has also been approved to purchase a new hybrid vehicle which will support the Regional Entry and Counter Terrorism Team (REACT).
