Career Highlights:
- Ranked as the 12th most bipartisan Member of the House of Representatives, according to the Lugar Center.
- Helped lead the successful fight to reauthorize the Zadroga Act and 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund for our 9/11 first responders, victims, and their families.
- Secured over $20 million in annual funding for Long Island Sound cleanup through the Long Island Sound Program and secured full funding for the National Estuary Program.
- As a member of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic, cosponsored and helped lead the successful effort to pass the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) into law, which provides $8.3 billion in funding to combat the heroin and opioid abuse epidemic, supporting programs that focus on prevention, treatment and enforcement.
- Created the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project for veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
- Helped usher into law a five-year, fully funded transportation bill that included his bipartisan Safe Bridges Act proposal, which has provided desperately needed federal funding for Hospital Road Bridge and Smith Point Bridge, among other local infrastructure needs.
- Delivered urgently requested support against long odds for our area’s maritime infrastructure, such as an emergency dredge of Moriches Inlet and a dredge of the Long Island Intracoastal Waterway, while advancing several vital Army Corps projects for NY-1, including the over $1 billion Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) project.
- Supported funding for hundreds of grants and massive funding for Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Lab so they can continue their important research.
