Ramapo, NY – A five-month investigation by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force led to the discovery of a loaded ghost gun and additional gun production equipment at a residence in Ramapo on April 29, 2025. Authorities executed a search warrant at the home, uncovering a 14-year-old minor in possession of the firearm and several tools used in the assembly of ghost guns.
Ghost guns are firearms that are un-serialized and untraceable, assembled from individual parts purchased separately, often via online kits. These guns do not have serial numbers, making them virtually undetectable, and they can be easily assembled without requiring background checks. The incident underscores the growing concern about the proliferation of ghost guns, which are increasingly accessible to minors and adults alike.
During the search, investigators found a 9mm ghost gun, loaded with ammunition, along with two 3D printers and a variety of components used in the assembly of these untraceable weapons. The equipment and firearms were seized as evidence, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to curb the spread of ghost guns in Rockland County.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting the potential risks posed by ghost guns to public safety. “Ghost guns are a constant threat due to their ease of access to individuals who might otherwise be prohibited from possessing firearms,” said Walsh. “These guns bypass background checks and undermine existing gun laws. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office will continue to vigorously investigate the possession and manufacture of these illegal firearms.”
Due to the young age of the individual involved, the case has been referred to the Rockland County Probation Department. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to assess the full scope of the situation.
The joint operation involved assistance from the Westchester County Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Ramapo Police Department, showcasing the coordinated efforts between local and regional law enforcement agencies to combat illegal firearm activity.
The discovery highlights the growing concerns surrounding ghost guns and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against illegal firearms.
