NYACK, NY — After nearly a decade at the helm, Tom Lynch has officially passed the torch at Casa del Sol, the beloved Mexican restaurant and live music venue located in the heart of downtown Nyack. The new owners, Alex and his son Alex Jr., will now lead the establishment into its next chapter, continuing a tradition of food, music, and community that spans nearly three decades.
“Just as I took over Casa 10 years ago from Gina and Jorge, Alex and his son are now taking it over from me,” Lynch announced in a heartfelt message shared with patrons. “Thank you, Nyack, from the bottom of my heart.”
Even in the days leading up to the sale this past week, Lynch kept the festivities going, with a Thursday night Black Sabbath open mic tribute, as well as the traditional Halloween party on Saturday. The restaurant’s decorations and attendance were both abundant all throughout.
Lynch’s departure marks the close of a significant chapter for Casa del Sol, a space that has long served as more than just a restaurant. Since opening its doors in 1997, Casa has been a cornerstone of Nyack’s cultural scene, known for its vibrant support of local artists and musicians. Under Lynch’s leadership – as well as his embrace of the local music scene, that identity only grew stronger. The hiring of a strong series of chefs, waitstaff and barkeeps added to Casa’s prominence as a provider of quality cuisine. Between Google, Facebook and Instagram reviews alone, the facility has garnered over 1300 positive reviews, and over 7000 followers.
In 2015, Lynch—who had been with Casa since its inception—purchased the business, reimagining the menu alongside his wife Kathy to feature both traditional Mexican fare and creative house specialties such as Brisket Burritos and Mexican Lollipops. He also preserved the restaurant’s legacy as a haven for the arts, hosting everything from weekly jam sessions – including what became to be known as “The World Famous Casa Jam” – to monthly art shows and drum circles.
New Ownership Was Already a Part of Casa for Years
Alex, the incoming co-owner, has been a fixture of Casa del Sol for years, playing a critical role in its day-to-day operations. “Alex was basically there with me for the entire ride,” Lynch noted. “I’m beyond happy that he and Alex Jr. can continue the Casa tradition.”

The transition has sparked an outpouring of support from the community, especially from those in the local music scene. “Tom really made the bands and performers feel welcome,” said local drummer Tito Wilson. “He encouraged us to be creative while we played.”
While Casa del Sol will be temporarily closed for a few days during the transition, plans are in place to reopen by the end of the week. Lynch, for his part, will remain involved in the near term, helping with the transition and even continuing to tend bar on occasion.
Others echoed similar sentiments. “Thanks for everything you have done throughout the years, including making a warm welcoming home for the local music scene,” wrote Predrag Dubravcic. “Nyack is better because of you.”
As for the future, patrons can expect continuity. From its famous Taco Tuesdays and eclectic live music lineup to its diverse food and drink offerings, Casa del Sol is poised to retain the unique spirit that has made it a staple in the Nyack community.
“Please continue to support Casa del Sol,” Lynch urged. “These guys are literally the hardest-working people I’ve ever known in my life.”
