Suffern, NY — February 9, 2026 — Rockland Community College (RCC) is marking Black History Month with a series of events centered on the theme “Black Excellence: 100 Years of Acknowledging and Celebrating the Contributions of African Americans.” The month-long programming highlights the heritage, history, culture, and leadership of African Americans while inviting community-wide participation.
“At Rockland Community College, we believe education is most powerful when it reflects the full richness of our shared history,” said RCC President Dr. William P. Mullaney. “This year’s Black History Month programming highlights a century of African American excellence and invites our community to engage deeply with the voices, stories, and contributions that continue to shape our world.”
The celebrations come on the heels of RCC receiving the 2025 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. This national honor recognizes colleges with strong, campus-wide initiatives supporting underrepresented students and faculty. It marks RCC’s fifth consecutive year earning the award.
All events are free and open to the public. More details and a full calendar are available at: sunyrockland.edu/media/black-history-month
