POMONA, N.Y. — Rockland County officials are calling on residents to recognize community members who have made a lasting impact on the environment as nominations open for the 29th Annual County Executive’s Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award.
The award honors individuals whose volunteer efforts help protect and enhance Rockland County’s natural resources, from maintaining parks and preserving watersheds to promoting waste reduction and environmental stewardship.
County Executive Ed Day and the county’s Division of Environmental Resources announced that nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Aug. 28.
The annual award recognizes residents who work behind the scenes to improve the quality of life in Rockland County through environmental advocacy, conservation efforts and community service.
Eligible nominees must be at least 18 years old and reside in Rockland County. Residents who were nominated in previous years but were not selected remain eligible for consideration.
The winner will be recognized during a tree dedication ceremony scheduled for Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Dells Park, a tradition that celebrates both environmental leadership and the county’s commitment to preserving green spaces.
For nearly three decades, the award has highlighted the contributions of volunteers who devote their time and energy to protecting local ecosystems and encouraging sustainable practices throughout the county.
County officials said the recognition serves as an opportunity to shine a spotlight on individuals whose efforts often go unnoticed but have a meaningful impact on the community and the environment.
Nominations may be submitted online through the county’s nomination form. Additional information is available through the Rockland County Division of Environmental Resources at 845-364-2670 or by email at ENV@co.rockland.ny.us.
