SUFFERN, N.Y. — Three Rockland Community College (RCC) students have been recognized for their academic achievement, leadership and commitment to service after receiving scholarships from the Rockland Business Women’s Network during its 2026 Women of Achievement celebration.
The awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence in education, perseverance in overcoming challenges and a dedication to improving their communities.
Among the recipients was Maylin Alarcon, a first-generation Latina college student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree with ambitions of earning an MD-Ph.D. and advancing the fields of neurosurgery and neuroscience research. Alarcon received a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of her academic accomplishments and career aspirations focused on improving patient care through medical innovation and scientific discovery.
Also honored was Elizabeth Bourmatnov, a Rockland Community College nursing student whose academic journey has been shaped by balancing full-time employment, family responsibilities and rigorous coursework. Bourmatnov has remained active in volunteer and fundraising efforts supporting healthcare and community organizations while working toward her goal of becoming a registered nurse. She received a $2,500 scholarship sponsored by the Rockland Industrial Development Agency.
Jennifer Mancuso, another RCC nursing student, also received a $2,500 Rockland IDA-sponsored scholarship. Mancuso serves as senior director of the Interfaith Prison Partnership and has spent years advocating for restorative justice initiatives, family support services and reentry programs for formerly incarcerated individuals. She is pursuing a nursing career to further her mission of providing healthcare and support to underserved populations.
Rockland Community College President Dr. William P. Mullaney said the recipients embody the values of determination and service that define the college community.
“We are incredibly proud of these outstanding students and the dedication they have demonstrated in both their academic and personal pursuits,” Mullaney said. “Their stories exemplify resilience, leadership and a commitment to serving others. We are grateful to the Rockland Business Women’s Network for investing in the future of our students and helping them achieve their educational and professional goals.”
The scholarships were presented as part of the Rockland Business Women’s Network’s annual Women of Achievement celebration, which recognizes women making meaningful contributions to the community and supports future leaders through educational assistance.
RBWN President Simone HoSang-Jordan said the organization remains committed to empowering women through education and professional development.
“RBWN is incredibly proud to continue investing in the education and future leadership of women in our community,” HoSang-Jordan said. “These scholarships reflect the heart of our mission: supporting women as they pursue their professional goals and contributing to the economic vitality of Rockland County.”
The recognition highlights the growing impact of scholarship programs designed to help students overcome financial barriers while preparing for careers in healthcare, research, public service and other fields that strengthen local communities.
