Nyack, N.Y. โ Communities across Rockland County are preparing to celebrate Independence Day and the nation’s 250th anniversary with fireworks, concerts, family activities and patriotic events beginning Thursday, July 2, and continuing through the holiday weekend. Organizers are expecting large crowds as local communities join nationwide celebrations marking the semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The festivities begin Thursday in Nyack with the start of “Nyack Celebrates USA 250 Years,” a two-day event featuring live music, family activities and historical programming. The celebration includes a classic car show, a children’s “Freedom Zone,” community entertainment and the unveiling of a 2026 time capsule commemorating the anniversary year. Organizers say the event is designed to celebrate both local history and the nation’s founding.
The event will continue on Friday, July 3, with additional activities and a fireworks display over the Hudson River. The fireworks are scheduled to be launched from a barge near the North River Shipyard, providing viewing opportunities along Nyack’s waterfront.
Elsewhere in Rockland County, the New York Boulders will host back-to-back Independence Day celebrations at Clover Stadium in Pomona on Friday and Saturday. Both games will conclude with fireworks displays, combining baseball and holiday festivities for families looking for a traditional summer outing.
The celebrations in Rockland County are part of a larger observance taking place across New York and the nation. This year’s Independence Day carries additional significance as the United States marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776. Communities throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City are hosting special events, expanded fireworks displays and historical commemorations in recognition of the milestone anniversary.
Local officials and event organizers are reminding residents to check weather forecasts and event websites before traveling, as some activities may be subject to changes or rain dates. Drivers should also anticipate heavier-than-normal traffic around parks, waterfront areas and stadiums during the holiday weekend.
For many families, the celebrations represent more than just fireworks and entertainment. Organizers say the events are intended to bring communities together, reflect on the nation’s history and create new traditions as the country enters its next quarter millennium.
