Québec City, QC – The New York Boulders’ playoff run came to a disappointing end Friday night as the three-time defending Frontier League champions, the Québec Capitales, completed a Wild Card Round sweep with a 4-0 victory at Stade Canac.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Québec’s third baseman Kendall Simmons launched a leadoff home run off rookie Aidan Risse, making his professional postseason debut. A passed ball later in the inning added another run for the Capitales, and two more runs in the eighth off Tyler Vail — the Frontier League’s Relief Pitcher of the Year — put the game out of reach.
The Boulders struggled to generate offense, managing just three singles against RHP Greg Duncan, who struck out ten batters over 7.2 innings while walking none. Relievers Ryo Kohigashi and Cole Roland retired the final four batters to seal Québec’s sweep. RF Enzo Apodaca was called out on a pitch clock violation to end the game and the season, marking the first Boulders shutout since August 5 at Evansville.
Despite the loss, there were bright spots for New York. LHP Mitchell Senger delivered another impressive outing, pitching five innings without allowing a walk — his second consecutive such performance. All-Star SS Austin Dennis ended the season on a six-game hitting streak, going 11-for-29 (.379) over that span.
The Capitales now advance to the best-of-five Atlantic Conference Finals, where they will face Tri-City following the ValleyCats’ sweep of the Sussex County Miners. Game One is set for Tuesday night in Troy, NY.
The Boulders will return to the field for Opening Night 2026, with tickets and season information available at NYBoulders.com or by calling (845) 364-0009. Fans can also stream all Boulders games — home and away — on Frontier League TV, powered by HomeTeam Network.
