Stephen Papas

Haverstraw, NY — Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland (CCCSR) has announced Stephen Papas as its new Executive Director, succeeding Dan Eudene, who will retire on February 6th after years of distinguished service. The leadership transition marks a new chapter for one of Rockland County’s highly regarded social service organizations.

According to the press release from CCCSR – Papas, a native of Rockland County, brings a deep-seated commitment to public service, forged through years of experience across both government and nonprofit sectors. Papas currently serves as President and CEO of United Way of Rockland County.

“It has been an honor to serve this community alongside such dedicated colleagues and partners, and I could not be more confident in leaving Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland in Stephen’s capable hands,” said outgoing Executive Director Dan Eudene. “His successful track record of collaboration and his lifelong commitment to service make him the ideal person to lead CCCSR into its next chapter.”

Joan Facelle, Chair of the CCCSR Board, echoed that sentiment: “We are thrilled to welcome Stephen to lead Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland. We believe he is the right person to shepherd CCCSR’s continued growth and development for the benefit of our Rockland community. We also thank Dan for his many years of service and for leading the organization into a bright future where we can truly make a difference one family at a time.”

Papas’s passion for helping others began early. As a youth, he volunteered feeding the homeless with his church, laying the groundwork for a life in service. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo in 2007, Papas worked in the U.S. House of Representatives and the New York State Legislature before completing a Master’s in Public Administration at Pace University.

In recent years, Papas transitioned into the nonprofit world with roles at the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County and Meals on Wheels of Rockland.

“I am honored to join Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland and to continue the vital work this organization does every day to serve our neighbors in need,” said Papas. “I look forward to building on the incredible foundation that Dan and the CCCSR team have established.”

CCCSR is an affiliate of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and provides services to all Rockland County residents regardless of religion. Its work includes feeding over 5,500 families annually through its Food Pantry, distributing thousands of pounds of fresh produce from its onsite Community Garden of Love, and helping prevent homelessness for over 100 households each year.
