Rockland County, NY – Rockland Community College (RCC) has announced its participation in Hillel International’s Campus Climate Initiative (CCI), a national program designed to help colleges and universities foster an inclusive and supportive environment for Jewish students. The initiative equips campus administrators with resources and training to address antisemitism and create a welcoming atmosphere where all students can express their identities freely.
As part of the program, RCC administrators will assess the college’s current campus climate and participate in a 10-month educational curriculum focused on Jewish student experiences. Upon completing the program in December 2025, the college will develop and implement a Campus Action Plan aimed at enhancing inclusivity for all students.
“Joining Hillel International’s Campus Climate Initiative is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to address antisemitism and ensure inclusivity,” said Melissa L. Roy, JD, RCC’s Chief Diversity Officer. “Through this partnership, we are equipping our leadership with the tools and education needed to create a safer, more welcoming space for Jewish students and the entire campus community.”
New York State Assemblymember Aron Wieder also expressed support for RCC’s participation. “I’m pleased to see that the college is taking a proactive stance in combating antisemitism by joining the Hillel Campus Climate Initiative,” said Wieder. “Now more than ever, it is crucial to demonstrate that hate has no place anywhere, especially on college campuses.”
RCC provides students with various opportunities for personal and academic growth through more than 40 student clubs and organizations focused on career development, cultural engagement, and leadership. The college also offers designated prayer, meditation, and reflection spaces to support students of all religious backgrounds.
By partnering with Hillel International, RCC joins a cohort of approximately 20 colleges and universities nationwide participating in this initiative, bringing the total number of institutions involved in CCI to 75 since its inception. More information about the Campus Climate Initiative and participating institutions is available on the Hillel International website.
