In Memoriam: Theodore “Ted the Great” Schultz

The meeting opened with a tribute to long-time resident Theodore “Ted the Great” Schultz, who passed away on January 10 at the age of 85. Ted was remembered as an Eagle Scout, athlete, devoted family man, and successful businessman. His Ford dealership earned numerous Ford Motor Company President’s Awards. The Board held a moment of silence in his honor.


Supervisor’s Report

Response to Weekend Winter Storm

Supervisor Amy Conklin-Stamm acknowledged the town’s response to Winter Storm Fern. Superintendent of Highways Karl Javenes and the parks and highway departments were commended for clearing roads and lots efficiently. The Stony Point Police Department, Wayne Hose Fire Department, and Stony Point Ambulance Corps were also thanked for their support during the storm.

Streetscaping on Route 9W

Two upcoming public input sessions—on February 10 and February 24—were announced to gather community feedback on planned streetscaping projects along Route 9W. Initiatives under consideration include decorative lighting, sidewalk repairs, and park improvements. An 80-foot flagpole is planned near the commuter lot in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Residents can submit feedback via email to the Supervisor or by regular mail to Town Hall.

Upcoming Events

  • PAL Bingo Night: Scheduled for Friday, February 6 at Kirkbride Hall. Doors open at 6:30 PM; bingo starts at 7 PM.
  • Annual Town Cleanup: Set for Saturday, April 18 in collaboration with Keep Rockland Beautiful. The event is weather-dependent, following last year’s inclement conditions.

Routine Approvals

The Board unanimously approved:

  • Purchase order requests
  • Bill payments
  • Minutes from the January 13, 2026 meeting

Moratorium Extension

A public hearing was held to extend a development moratorium originally enacted in July. With no public comments, the Board approved a six-month extension to allow time for revisions to a proposed local law.

Other Resolutions

  • Ramapo Firing Range License: Renewed for continued use.
  • Golf Course Supplies: Town Clerk authorized to solicit bids for fertilizer and plant protectants for the golf course.
  • Surplus Vehicles: Approved disposal of one police and one parks department vehicle.
  • Golf Superintendent Conference: Approval granted for Golf Course Superintendent Evan Weymouth to attend the national GCSA Conference.
  • Irrigation Project at Patriot Hills: Town engineer authorized to design and prepare bid documents for an irrigation system to draw from the golf course pond. The project aims to reduce water costs from Violia, which have risen to over $260,000 annually.
  • Budget Modifications: Approved as submitted by Finance Director Katherine Murray to support vehicle purchases for town operations.

Executive Session and Adjournment

The Board entered executive session to discuss the financial history of a corporation with which the town does business. No vote followed. The meeting concluded in memory of Ted Schultz.
