Last Saturday, Supervisor Kenny attended the opening ceremony of the Third Annual Tappan Field of Honor at the Manse Green in Tappan. This powerful event features the display of over 250 American flags, each dedicated in memory or in honor of a community member. The flags will be on display in a solemn formation from May 18th to July 6th.
The Field of Honor, organized by the Tappan community, serves as a poignant tribute to those who have made significant contributions or sacrifices. Each flag represents a story of valor, dedication, and community spirit, creating a visual testament to the values that bind the community together.
Supervisor Kenny, speaking at the ceremony, expressed deep appreciation for the symbolism and significance of the Field of Honor. “These flags represent the heart and soul of our community,” he said. “They honor the brave individuals whose service and sacrifices have shaped our lives and protected our freedoms.”
The event attracted a diverse group of attendees, including veterans, families of honorees, community leaders, and residents, all gathered to pay their respects and celebrate the lives of those honored by the display. The opening ceremony included moving speeches, a moment of silence, and the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” evoking a sense of patriotism and reflection.
Local veterans’ groups and scout troops participated in the event, assisting with the flag setup and ensuring the display’s dignified presentation. The rows of flags, meticulously arranged, offer a place for visitors to reflect, remember, and find solace.
The Field of Honor will remain open to the public until July 6th, allowing ample time for community members to visit and honor the individuals represented. The display serves not only as a memorial but also as a reminder of the values of service, sacrifice, and community spirit.
Supervisor Kenny’s presence at the opening ceremony underscored the importance of recognizing and honoring the contributions of community members. His participation highlighted the collective commitment to preserving the memories of those who have served and the ongoing support for their families.
