Career Highlights
After a lengthy career in the NYC commercial laundry business, Richard Sena changed the course of his career 15 years ago to focus on commercial real estate and redevelopment, specializing as a property manager overseeing the construction, building maintenance, leasing, negotiating and marketing.
Seeing opportunity and promise to restore historic properties in a number of charming communities in upstate New York along the Hudson River, Mr. Sena jumped into his first redevelopment venture back in 2000 in Columbia County, New York, in the town of Hudson, which draws crowds of New Yorkers escaping the city each weekend to antique shop and check out the local art galleries.
Here, Mr. Sena bought two mixed-use buildings with commercial space on the ground floor and numerous apartment units on the upper floors. To help expand the community’s growing retail section, while staying in-tune to the quality of life of local artists, Mr. Sena focused on using these buildings as an artists’ collective. The building’s commercial space was transformed into an art gallery, while the apartment units were rented out as living and studio space to artists who could supply art to the gallery on the ground floor.
Mr. Sena’s latest venture surrounds restoring a multi-purpose building in Haverstraw, New York, where he converted a former barber shop into a historic redevelopment office space , while managing the tenants living in the apartments above the commercial space. Mr. Sena is showcase the possibilities of redevelopment and how restoring historical spaces and preserving their unique features can still meld with and function in modern-day consumerization.

Governing philosophy
My governing philosophy are ethics, liberty, justice, property, rights, law, and the enforcement of laws by authority.
Main focus of your term, if elected
I, Richard Sena, am running for the vacant Village of Haverstraw Trustee seat . It is my belief that public service is a responsibility that we all share and we should all be willing to contribute our time and best effort toward the well being of the community in which we live, work, and play. Mohammed Ali said it well, “Service to others is the rent you pay on earth.”- “El servicio a los demás es la renta que pagas en la tierra.
Having lived in the Rockland County for 40 years, I have been involved with the Village as a business owner and now a resident for the last 7 years. I am aware of the needs of the community, the resources available, and the public concerns that face our citizens.
My commitment is to serve the citizens of our great community and contribute to its growth and prosperity; I will support public safety, encourage the continued improvements of the Village’s infrastructure, support marketing efforts and encourage new economic development while supporting our local business. I would like to work on improving communication between the Village administration and the citizens of Haverstraw.
With respect, grace and humility I pledge to help the citizens of the Village by promising to work wherever and whenever possible to keep the Village of Haverstraw the best community in Rockland County to live, work, learn and play. Please email me at rsena54@gmail.com if you have questions or comments. I would be appreciative of any help or advise.
Thank you.
