Governing philosophy
My job in the Assembly is to make sure that our corner of New York has a voice in Albany, whether that means funding projects here at home or stopping policies that would hurt our communities.
I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been able to work with local leaders to deliver for residents. Over the years, I’ve secured critical funding for road paving and infrastructure projects, park improvements, historic building renovations, and public safety equipment. These funding initiatives have brought a new plow truck and dog park to Haverstraw; a new roof for the old stone meeting house and improved sidewalks in Upper Nyack; and new pickleball courts, preservation of the Traphagen House, and police license plate readers to Clarkstown. I also partnered with Rockland County and my partners in Albany to deliver funding for the county’s new building inspection unit to ensure that buildings are safe for residents and first responders.
In addition to bringing resources here to Rockland, I know how important it is to stop policies that would negatively impact our county. Just this year in Albany, I fought the proposed accessory dwelling unit proposal that would have put a tremendous strain on our county. I heard the concerns of countless residents here and worked with my colleagues in the Assembly to fight this proposal, which was ultimately removed from the governor’s budget proposal.
Ensuring that our district has a voice in Albany means working together at every level. I’m proud of the results that I’ve fought to deliver for residents since I was first elected, and I hope to be able to continue that work on behalf of Rocklanders.
Main focus of your term, if elected
My main focus next term is on improving our economy while focusing on affordability and the challenges of inflation. I’m proud of the work I’ve done to lower middle class income tax rates, expand child tax credit payments, and establish a gas tax holiday to help provide relief for Rocklanders, but we must do more.
I’m also committed to combating gun violence and reducing crime. This year, we passed common sense gun legislation to strengthen the gun permitting process, prohibit firearms in sensitive areas, expand safe storage laws, and create an ammunition database. We must continue to ensure our gun laws are up to date while making sure our streets are safe across the state. I fought to make fixes to the bail reform law, but we must continue to make changes so that judges have discretion in these cases. I’m proud to have the support of the Police Conference of New York State and the NYC PBA in my campaign, and will continue to fight for policies that protect their members and improve public safety.
In Albany, I will continue to fight to deliver the record level of education funding that I’ve helped secure in previous years. That means continuing to fully fund Foundation Aid, which brought $75 million to Rockland schools in the last two years and making sure that our county has a sufficient number of pre-k slots made available.
Finally, I look forward to once again passing the Equal Rights Amendment so that this important measure can appear on the ballot next year. This measure will protect against discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation while protecting women’s reproductive rights.
