STONY POINT, NY – A 16-year-old male from Stony Point was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a high-speed chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies and culminating in a collision with a school bus and damage to private property, police said.
According to the Stony Point Police Department, the incident began around 3:35 p.m. on June 17 when officers were notified by Clarkstown Police of a suspect vehicle that had failed to comply in connection with a road rage incident in their jurisdiction.
The vehicle, which was believed to be linked to an address in Stony Point, was soon spotted by local patrol units near the Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP) exits close to Route 210 and Willow Grove Road.
When a Stony Point patrol officer attempted to stop the vehicle by activating emergency lights, the teen driver reversed into an occupied school bus on the ramp. From there, the suspect sped onto Route 210 and re-entered the PIP heading southbound, eventually crossing into the northbound lane and exiting again at Willow Grove Road.
During the pursuit, which spanned residential neighborhoods, the suspect vehicle reportedly drove through multiple front yards, causing minor property damage. The chase came to an end when the vehicle became immobilized on large rocks or boulders. Officers swiftly apprehended both the juvenile driver and a juvenile passenger without further incident.
Authorities confirmed that no one—including the school bus occupants, officers, or members of the public—was injured during the event.
The juvenile driver was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief in the 2nd degree, three counts of Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, Reckless Driving, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was processed at the Stony Point Police Department before being transferred to Clarkstown Police to face additional, more serious charges tied to the original incident.
The operation received assistance from the New York State Police, New York State Park Police, Haverstraw Police, and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
Local Police commended the cooperation among agencies and expressed relief that the incident ended without physical harm.
