Tomkins Cove, NY – A 50-year-old Stony Point man was arrested on multiple charges after a single-vehicle crash on North Liberty Drive near Elm Avenue.
According to the Stony Point Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:45 PM to several calls reporting a damaged vehicle. Upon arrival, they found a black SUV on the northbound shoulder, facing southbound, with heavy damage. The vehicle had struck a large boulder, a utility pole, and a sign.
The driver, identified as Paul Hansen of Stony Point, was standing beside the SUV and acknowledged he was operating the vehicle. Officers noted signs of impairment, including slurred speech, unsteady balance, and glassy eyes. Hansen reportedly refused to answer questions and declined to perform field sobriety tests.
Investigators later discovered that Hansen has four prior DWI convictions, a revoked New York State driver’s license, and a court order requiring the use of an ignition interlock device. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Stony Point Police Station for further processing.
Hansen faces charges including Aggravated DWI, DWI, operating a vehicle without an interlock device, refusal to take a breath test, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, along with several vehicle and traffic violations. He was arraigned at Stony Point Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail. Hansen is scheduled to appear in court on September 4, 2025, at 1:30 PM.
No injuries were reported from the incident. Police are continuing their investigation.
