Rockland County, NY -In a continuing effort to promote safety and reduce gun violence, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office and the Suffern Police Department are teaming up to host a community gun buyback event on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leo Lydon Community Center, located at 118 Yorkshire Drive in Suffern.
Residents will have the opportunity to anonymously turn in both functioning and non-functioning firearms in exchange for prepaid gift cards — no questions asked and no identification required.
Compensation for surrendered firearms will be distributed as follows:
- Assault rifles: $500 each
- Handguns: $250 each
- Rifles or shotguns: $75 each
- Non-functioning, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D-printed guns: $25 total for all turned in
Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh emphasized the importance of the initiative in helping make Rockland’s neighborhoods safer. “Every unwanted firearm that is safely removed from circulation represents one less opportunity for tragedy,” Walsh said. “This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing community safety and reducing the potential for gun violence in our neighborhoods.”
Participants are asked to transport firearms unloaded, secured in a paper or plastic bag, and placed in the trunk of their vehicle. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers will safely remove the firearms. Payments will be issued once the firearms have been screened and approved by officers on site.
There is no limit to the number of firearms an individual can surrender. However, a single $25 payment will be issued for all non-functioning, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D-printed guns turned in. Active or retired law enforcement officers and licensed gun dealers are not eligible to participate.
The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office encourages all residents to take advantage of this safe, confidential opportunity to dispose of unwanted firearms and contribute to a safer community.
