Nyack, N.Y. — Downtown Nyack served as the backdrop for Rockland Pride Sunday on June 14, drawing residents, visitors, community organizations, businesses, and advocacy groups for a day-long celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
The annual event, organized by the Rockland County Pride Center, featured a parade through downtown streets, live entertainment, local vendors, family activities, shopping, and outdoor dining. Organizers described the event as free and family-friendly, with programming designed to welcome attendees of all ages. The celebration ran from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the parade stepping off shortly after the event began.
According to event organizers, the celebration included musical performances, guest entertainers, local drag artists, community vendors, and activities for children. Family-oriented attractions included a bounce house, face painting, and other youth activities hosted at the Nyack Center.
Rockland Pride Sunday has become one of the county’s largest annual community events and is part of a broader series of Pride Month activities held throughout June. The event is organized by the Rockland County Pride Center, a nonprofit organization based in Nyack that provides advocacy, support services, educational programs, and community resources for LGBTQ+ residents throughout Rockland County and neighboring communities.
The Pride Center states that its mission focuses on improving the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals through community programming, support groups, youth services, healthcare partnerships, referrals, and advocacy initiatives. The organization serves residents from across the Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey.
This year’s event received support from several local partners, including Rockland County Tourism and the Village of Nyack. Organizers also noted that portions of the programming were made possible through Arts Alive, a regrant program administered by ArtsWestchester with support from New York State arts funding sources.
Throughout the day, attendees gathered along Main Street and surrounding downtown areas to watch the parade and participate in community activities. Local businesses, restaurants, and shops also benefited from increased foot traffic as visitors spent time in the village during the event. Nyack’s downtown business district served as the central hub for festivities, with entertainment and vendor activities spread throughout the area.
Community organizations from across Rockland County and the Hudson Valley participated in the celebration, providing information about local services, volunteer opportunities, health resources, and civic engagement efforts. The event also featured participation from nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups that support a range of community initiatives.
Rockland Pride Sunday is one of several annual Pride events held throughout the region and has grown into a longstanding tradition in Nyack. Organizers describe the event as an opportunity to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and bring together residents from different backgrounds in a public community setting.
The event concluded in the late afternoon following a full schedule of performances, community activities, and vendor exhibitions. Organizers have indicated that Rockland Pride will continue to serve as a centerpiece of Pride Month programming in Rockland County in the years ahead.
