STONY POINT, NY — Penguin Rep Theatre, the professional theatre company housed in a charmingly repurposed 1880 barn, has begun its 45th season for 2023, promising a delightful mix of laughter and love.
Under the guidance of founding Artistic Director, Joe Brancato, and Executive Director, Andrew M. Horn, the company kicked off the season on April 14 with a special workshop reading of “Brat” by Jason Pizzarello. Directed by renowned Bob Balaban and featuring Emmy Award-winning Edie Falco, the event promises to set the tone for a season filled with emotion and humor.
In total, the season will feature four mainstage productions and several special events. The mainstage season commenced on May 5 with “Popcorn Falls,” a comedy by James Hindman described as a “feel-good show” by The New York Times.
The mainstage lineup will also include “Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help,” a new comedy set in the era of bell bottoms and cassette tapes; the world premiere of “Gene & Gilda,” an intimate portrait of beloved entertainers Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner; and “Let There Be Love,” a humorous and moving family drama.
In addition to the mainstage productions, the theatre will also host special events, including “I Choose the Light: The Music of Neil Berg,” a celebration of the award-winning local songwriter’s work.
The theatre, located at 7 Crickettown Road, is known for its intimate setting with no seat more than 30 feet from the stage. The venue is air conditioned, handicapped accessible, and offers plenty of free parking.
