The following was posted on behalf of the Board of Trustees of Rockland Community College. The original release is located on the Rockland Community College website. Original story regarding layoffs is here.
RCC is facing a budget deficit, and we are working diligently to identify measures that will alleviate this deficit without compromising the academic integrity and quality of our institution. Addressing such a challenge may necessitate making difficult choices.
We understand the impact these cost-cutting measures may have on our community, and we are committed to providing resources and support to those affected. We are actively exploring ways to minimize the impact on our employees and maintain our core educational mission, as we continue to prioritize the success and well-being of our students and our institution.
Despite increased enrollment this fall, the College experienced a shortfall in enrollment over the past several years, and we are therefore facing significant budgetary challenges that necessitate this action. It is essential to emphasize that these cost-cutting measures are not a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our staff and faculty. Rather, they are a response to the economic realities we are currently facing. Our commitment to providing quality education and supporting our students remains unwavering.
This fall, we had an encouraging 8% rise in enrollment compared to the fall of 2022. We are continually evolving and strategizing to further boost recruitment efforts, enhance student retention, and cement RCC’s position as a top choice for academic pursuits in our region and beyond.
We remain deeply grateful for the continued trust and support of our community during these times. We are confident that RCC will continue to flourish and serve our students and community with distinction.
