A wake was held yesterday for the Passaic County Sheriff who took his own life last week while eating lunch at a restaurant in Clifton, New Jersey. CBS News New York reported a long line of mourners waited to get into the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson to pay their respects to Sheriff Richard Berdnik. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco knew the Sheriff…
NBC News New York reported a Passaic County corrections officer and two sergeants had recently been accused of beating an inmate. The Bergen Record also reported that Berdnik had recently sent a memo to explain the dire financial situation the department was in requiring him to lay off 29 jail corrections officers. Berdnik’s funeral is scheduled for 10am today at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, and he’ll be buried at St. Michael’s Cemetery in South Hackensack.
