Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood Jr. have announced the initiation of the Food Security Equipment Reimbursement Grant, allocating $500,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to bolster support for local nonprofits.
Designed to enhance food pantry services and promote capacity building, the grant aims to offset expenses related to pantry equipment, thereby fortifying the resilience of the county’s food pantry network. By facilitating improvements in service provision, the initiative seeks to enhance the preparedness of these organizations to navigate future public health emergencies effectively.
Eligible recipients comprise Rockland County-based nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) status, excluding institutions of higher education and healthcare facilities, that have experienced a decline in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the grant program, selected organizations may receive individual reimbursement grants of up to $20,000 to cover expenses associated with various equipment, including but not limited to freezers, refrigerators, shelving, and pantry-related software.
The reimbursement covers eligible equipment expenses incurred from January 1, 2024, until the application period closes on May 31, 2024.
