The lawsuits against the MTA’s congestion pricing plan for New York City commuters keep piling up but the MTA is planning to go ahead with it anyway come June 30th. The latest suit reportedly comes from the town of Hempstead on Long Island. Crain’s New York reported the federal suit claims the city’s subway system is a dangerous and unreasonable alternative for commuters. WABC-TV reported the federal suit claims MTA’s controversial plan treats different classes of drivers differently, and that’s a violation of their civil rights. Lucy Redzeposki is Rockland’s Director of Economic Development & Tourism, and she told “The Morning Show” Friday that the congestion pricing plan could work in Rockland’s favor…
Rockland County filed a suit in late March claiming the congestion pricing toll is illegal, and violates the Equal Protection Clause of the State and U.S. Constitutions. Under the plan, cars will be hit with a $15 toll when they drive below 60th Street in the so-called Congestion Relief Zone during peak hours. Officials expect 100,000 fewer vehicles to enter the zone every day, creating less traffic and cleaner air.
