SUFFERN, NY – The SUNY Rockefeller Institute of Government is spearheading a crucial examination of New York State’s Foundation Aid Formula, a system that determines how state funds are distributed to school districts. Senator Weber will be hosting a bipartisan discussion session about this at the Cultural Arts Theater of Rockland Community College on Monday, July 29th, from 6-8 pm. This event aims to gather diverse perspectives and reinforce the community’s stance on necessary reforms.
Weber is calling on Rockland residents to attend, and engage actively in this pivotal process. A prominent advocate for revising the funding formula, Senator Weber emphasized the critical need for community input, especially given the substantial funding gaps that have affected Rockland schools.
Established in 2007, the Foundation Aid Formula has long been a pivotal mechanism in ensuring equitable financial support for schools. However, over the years, numerous districts, including those in Rockland County, have reported significant shortfalls in the expected aid, highlighting the need for a thorough review. The Rockefeller Institute’s study will be informed by insights gathered during five public hearings scheduled across the state. These sessions are designed to provide a platform for community members, educators, and stakeholders to voice their opinions and suggestions.
To ensure broad participation, the Rockefeller Institute has detailed information and registration processes available at Foundation Aid Study Registration. The findings from these hearings will culminate in a comprehensive report set for release by December 2024.
“We finally have an opportunity to address the inequities in the Foundation Aid Formula,” Senator Weber asserted. “I strongly encourage every Rockland resident to make their voice heard and participate in this process, which will have a major impact for years to come.”
Residents are urged to seize this opportunity to influence the future of educational funding in their region.
