STONY POINT, NY – In a boost for local infrastructure, Stony Point has been awarded $100,000 as part of a broader $2.3 million grant – secured by New York State Senator Pete Harckham. This funding aims to support various improvement and infrastructure projects across the 40th Senate District. Stony Point is the sole Town in Rockland within Senator Harckham’s district.
Stony Point Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan announced plans to utilize the grant for much-needed upgrades to Kirkbride Hall. The town will focus on enhancing the heating system and installing a new HVAC system in the Kirkbride Hall gymnasium, ensuring the facility can support year-round recreational activities. “We are committed to upgrading our recreational facilities in Stony Point, particularly at Kirkbride Hall,” said Monaghan. “With the support of Senator Harckham and the CREST grant funding, Kirkbride Hall can become a hub for year-round recreational activities in Stony Point.”
Senator Harckham emphasized the importance of this funding in supporting local communities without impacting local property taxes. “The quality of life for our local residents is most impacted by their immediate town and village governments. It’s important to be able to offer them the financial resources that will help them deal with issues like public safety, aging infrastructure, and climate resiliency,” Harckham stated at a press conference held at Chilmark Park.
The $2.3 million grant, part of the State Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology (CREST) Program, will be distributed among various municipalities in the 40th Senate District, with each receiving $100,000. This initiative underscores the senator’s commitment to working with local leaders to fund critical projects that benefit residents and alleviate property tax burdens.
Stony Point’s allocation is set to significantly enhance Kirkbride Hall, a vital community space, ensuring it remains a valuable asset for the town’s residents. The upgrades to the heating and HVAC systems will make the facility more comfortable and functional, supporting a wide range of activities throughout the year.
This grant represents a continued effort by Senator Harckham to support and improve local infrastructure, having secured over $29 million in capital grants for various projects across the district since taking office in 2019.
