Across the Hudson River from Stony Point, ten people were rescued last week when their boat overturned off Oscawana Island in Cortlandt. The Westchester County Police Marine Unit told Patch.com that everyone was able to get to safety because they were all wearing personal flotation devices. Each was evaluated by EMS and no one was injured. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says there have been way too many drownings in the New York City area beaches, and sometimes people don’t take their personal safety seriously…
Statistics from the U.S. Coast Guard’s 2022 report found 75% of deaths on the nation’s waterways were due to drowning. A whopping 85% of those people who died were not wearing life jackets.
