Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan said: After several meetings with our Rockland County Highway Department personnel and with the assistance and support of our County Executive Ed Day, I would like to update our residents on the plans for the intersection of Washburns Lane and Central Highway. The Rockland County Highway Department has identified the course of action to improve traffic safety. The plans are as follows:- Immediately add additional road signage to alert motorists. – Eliminate the turning lanes on Central Highway, initially by removing the right-hand turning signage and re-striping the lanes. In the near future, construction will begin on moving out the curb lines, eliminating the ability for motorists to pass on the right. These changes to the intersection should slow down the traffic. It will also increase the site distance of motorists pulling out from Washburns Lane and will increase the safety of pedestrians walking on the sidewalks. Please slow down, don’t text and drive and stay safe.
