Peekskill, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today that he has received an endorsement from Planned Parenthood Empire State Votes (PPESV) PAC for re-election to the New York State Senate. The endorsement was conveyed in a letter from the PPESV PAC Endorsement Committee.
Now finishing his third term, Harckham has been a strong advocate for reproductive rights. He cosponsored and helped pass the Reproductive Health Act in New York on January 22, 2019, marking the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In 2022, Harckham co-sponsored and helped pass bills protecting the rights of women traveling to New York for reproductive healthcare.
Additionally, Harckham was instrumental in passing the Comprehensive Contraceptive Coverage Act, which mandates health insurance providers cover FDA-approved contraceptives without cost-sharing, and legislation protecting New York providers from out-of-state prosecutions for offering reproductive healthcare services.
“The rightwing-led Supreme Court’s wrongful decision to overturn the precedent set by Roe v. Wade and strip rights away from women for the first time in our nation’s history means New York State must remain vigilant and stand with women to protect their right to reproductive healthcare,” said Harckham. “I have foughtfor these rights, and will continue to do so. I thank Planned Parenthood for its partnership and support for my work, knowing we cannot rest in our fight to ensure that women receive the health care they choose and deserve.”
Robin Chappelle Golston, chair of PPESV PAC, added, “Planned Parenthood Empire State Votes PAC is proud to endorse Pete Harckham for re-election. Pete’s record speaks for itself in the State Senate. He has been a staunch supporter and ally in the fight to protect reproductive healthcare. And he will continue to be a powerful voice for all New Yorkers.”
Harckham also championed the state’s Equal Rights Amendment, which is on the ballot this November. If approved, it will enshrine reproductive healthcare in the New York State Constitution and prohibit government discrimination based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex.
In their endorsement letter, the PPESV PAC Endorsement Committee emphasized New York’s role as a leader in progressive politics and the importance of state leaders who will advance bold policies to protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive and sexual healthcare.
