Rockland County, NY – Former State Senator and current State Senate candidate Elijah Reichlin-Melnick (D-Rockland) has gained endorsements from two major environmental organizations, the Sierra Club and the New York League of Conservation Voters. These endorsements add to a growing list of support from labor unions, advocacy groups, and elected officials for Reichlin-Melnick’s campaign to reclaim his former State Senate seat.
“The Sierra Club and the New York League of Conservation Voters know I will always be a champion for the environment. I’ve made fighting climate change and protecting our air and drinking water focal points of the policies I pursued in the State Senate, and they are once again important parts of my campaign platform,” said Reichlin-Melnick. “I was proud to vote for the Environmental Bond Act and other vital legislation to ensure that New York leads the way on the environment, while my opponent has failed to take any actions to protect and preserve our environment. We cannot afford do-nothing politicians who continue waiting around for the planet to burn.”
Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, praised Reichlin-Melnick’s environmental record: “From his dedicated work on clean drinking water to his leadership in transitioning away from fossil fuels and advancing electric vehicle incentives, Elijah has shown he’s committed to tackling our toughest environmental challenges. His vision and experience make him the clear choice for State Senate in the 38th District. We’re proud to endorse him and eager to see him drive meaningful progress for New York’s future.”
Peggy Kurtz, Leader of the Rockland Sierra Club, added, “Sierra Club is proud to endorse Elijah Reichlin-Melnick for re-election to the NYS Senate based on his strong record in the Senate of leadership on environmental legislation and policy. We know Elijah understands the urgency of climate change and other environmental issues and will work hard to protect his constituents from the impacts of climate change and pollution.”
These endorsements reflect Reichlin-Melnick’s continued commitment to environmental protection and his leadership on critical issues affecting New York State.
