North Rockland, NY – School districts across New York State are experiencing an increase in social media threats of violence during the early weeks of the 2024–25 academic year. These threats, originating from various digital platforms including Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, have caused concern for many districts.
In North Rockland, the district’s Threat Assessment Teams, in collaboration with the Haverstraw and Stony Point police departments, have investigated several non-credible threats this week. The threats have been vague and appear to be similar to those being reported throughout the state.
North Rockland Central School District (NRCSD) administrators across all school buildings are actively monitoring the situation. The district is also reviewing safety procedures and protocols to ensure the security of its schools. Staff members have been briefed on the importance of constant vigilance and reporting any suspicious activity.
With the rapid increase in reported threats, identifying credible dangers has become more complex for school districts statewide. North Rockland encourages parents and guardians to remain vigilant by monitoring their children’s social media activities and reporting any unusual or threatening behavior to school officials or local authorities, including the Haverstraw and Stony Point police departments and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
The district acknowledges that these reports may cause anxiety among students, families, and staff. However, it reassures the community that the safety of students and staff remains the district’s top priority.
North Rockland appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the community during this time.
