Nyack, NY – The annual Brinks Memorial Ceremony took place on October 20, commemorating the lives and heroism of Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly Brown, and Brinks security guard Peter Paige, who were tragically killed during a domestic terrorism attack in 1981. The solemn event gathered local officials, law enforcement, and community members to honor their sacrifice and reflect on the impact the tragedy had on Rockland County and the nation.
The ambush, carried out by a group wielding automatic weapons, left an indelible mark on the community and led to significant changes in law enforcement protocols. In the aftermath, police agencies enhanced their weaponry, training, and cooperation, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force was created to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Supervisor George Hoehmann, Chief Wanamaker, and other officials joined law enforcement representatives at the ceremony, paying tribute to the bravery of these men who faced overwhelming danger with limited means. The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the risks officers take to protect their communities and the importance of unity and vigilance in the face of violence.
