Ramapo, NY — Supervisor Michael Specht, alongside Town of Ramapo Police Chief Danny Hyman, Captain Michael Colbath, and members of the Ramapo Police Department, attended a solemn memorial service in Nyack to honor the lives lost in the Brinks armored truck robbery 43 years ago. The ceremony remembered Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Police Officer Waverly Brown, and security guard Peter Page, who were tragically killed in the line of duty on October 20, 1981.
The memorial marks the anniversary of the deadly robbery outside the Nanuet National Bank at the Nanuet Mall, where a group of armed revolutionaries ambushed and opened fire, ultimately stealing $1.6 million. This tragedy left an indelible mark on the community, serving as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement and the impact of violence.
“The events of that day are forever ingrained in both local and national history,” shared Supervisor Specht. “We will never forget the lives lost and those whose lives were changed by this senseless act.”
The service offered a moment of reflection and remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, ensuring their legacy is honored in the Ramapo and Rockland County communities.
