The state’s Independent Redistricting Commission has given up trying to come up with new district lines for the State legislature and Congress, giving that responsibility to the Democratic party-controlled Senate and Assembly instead. The bi-partisan group said earlier this week that after two attempts at making new maps, negotiations would not continue. Rockland Assemblyman Democrat Ken Zebrowski says the two previous attempts to make new maps just weren’t good enough…
Rockland Assemblyman Republican Mike Lawler says the move could result in legal action…
Zebrowski says the legislative task force has to get together quickly and get the political calendar ready for upcoming elections. Primaries are set for June 28th, with a candidates’ filing deadline of April 7th, and proponents say it’s critical that the maps be finalized in the next few weeks.
