Nyack, NY – The Nyack Library is proud to present an afternoon of poetry, art, dance and drumming in celebration of Haitian Heritage Month on Saturday, May 14 at 2pm.
Organized by local author Daniel Wolff, the lineup includes poetry by Daniel and Denize Lauture, a presentation by visual artist Vladimir Cybil Charlier, drumming by Eric Alcin and Steve White, and dancing by Daphnee Nicolas and Sasha Miceus.
The Haitian community is a vital and vibrant part of life here in Rockland County. Too often, the media neglects to promote a complete picture of the Haitian people and their unique culture, instead focusing on corruption and tragedies. It is part of the Nyack Library’s mission to elevate the narrative, as well as provide services and entertainment for the entire community.
The event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase. To register, please visit nyacklibrary.org or call 845-358-3370 ext. 214.
Daniel Wolff is available for interviews and/or comments up to the day of the event. Daniel’s poetry has appeared in The Paris Review, American Poetry Review, and Raritan, among others. His previous collection is The Names of Birds (Four Way Books). He’s also written a half dozen non-fiction books. Ayiti (Finishing Line Press) came out of trips to Haiti to help produce Jonathan Demme’s documentary, The Agronomist.
