Anna Ciabattoni, affectionately known as “Annie” by the Stony Point community, passed away peacefully at her home on September 22, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of Rockland County, she was born in Haverstraw, NY, on May 11, 1935, to Filippo and Vincenza Ciabattoni.
Anna is remembered as the beloved owner of Annie’s Snack Shack, which she established in 1951 at the young age of 16. She operated the local gem for over 56 years, serving generations of families and becoming a pillar of the Stony Point community. Her dedication to her restaurant was matched by her commitment to community service, always giving back through charitable contributions and local events.
Known for her holiday decorations, particularly around Halloween, Annie’s home and lawn became a yearly spectacle that drew visitors from across the area. Her restaurant was also home to the Monday night car shows, which became a local tradition. Many remember Annie for her warm presence, sharp sense of humor, and her ability to make anyone feel welcome.
In her later years, Annie split her time between her homes along the Hudson River in Highland Falls and in South Florida. She was known for her love of good food, drinks, and her two beloved dogs, Joey and Toby. Her favorite pastime included sharing raw clams on the half shell with an ice-cold beer, surrounded by friends and family.
Preceded in death by her longtime partner Elizabeth Waldron and many of her siblings, Anna is survived by her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished her deeply. Her legacy as a businesswoman, community figure, and loving family member will not soon be forgotten.
A visitation service was held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service in Stony Point, followed by a funeral service. The community mourns the loss of a local legend, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
