BEAR MOUNTAIN, NY – A long-standing tradition beloved by many across the Hudson Valley will not be returning this fall. As first reported by 101.5 WPDH radio, the Bear Mountain Oktoberfest, New York State’s largest free Oktoberfest celebration, has been officially canceled for 2025, ending a 34-year run that turned the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area into a destination for thousands during autumn weekends in September and October.
Held in the picturesque Bear Mountain State Park, just north of Tomkins Cove NY, the festival offered an iconic blend of German cuisine, music, and culture. Families flocked to the event annually for its wide-ranging appeal—from pony rides and bounce houses for children to traditional German brews and bratwurst for adults. The celebration also attracted leaf-peepers and river cruisers alike, pairing peak foliage with seasonal festivity.
Although entry was always free, VIP packages—offering perks like unlimited food and drinks, souvenir steins and shirts, and preferred parking—added an extra layer of experience for attendees willing to pay a premium.
The news of the cancellation began circulating after a Facebook post by local real estate agent and chef CJ Cornwell, who expressed frustration at the decision. “I can’t believe The Bear Mountain Inn is canceling the Oktoberfest for the first time in 34 years. Execs don’t have their finger on the pulse!!” Cornwell wrote.
WPDH 101.5 stated that they reached out to the Bear Mountain Inn and confirmed the report. A staff member named Jamie explained that organizers had notified the venue back in January that they were pulling out for the year, with no indication of a return.
The end of Bear Mountain Oktoberfest marks more than just the loss of a festival—it leaves a cultural and economic gap in a region that has come to rely on it as a seasonal highlight.
For now, locals and visitors will have to look to the other festivals, such as the Haverstraw Eats and Beats Food Crawl on Sunday September 14th, Rockland Music Fest on Sept 27th, and Stony Point Family Fun Day on Saturday October 4th.
