Nyack, NY – The Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will be illuminated on the evening of Friday, September 19, 2025, as part of Stillbirth Prevention and Awareness Day, casting a symbolic glow of remembrance and hope across the Hudson Valley.
Each year, about 21,000 families in the United States experience the heartbreak of stillbirth. The awareness day aims to honor those babies lost too soon, support grieving families, and raise public understanding of prevention measures. By joining the nationwide effort, New York sends a visible message of solidarity and compassion.
“Too many families suffer in silence after stillbirth,” said Nora Moriarty Nicholson, New York Ambassador for Count the Kicks. “Illuminating the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge helps break that silence. It’s a beacon of love, remembrance, and commitment to advancing prevention and support for families.”
The bridge lighting is part of a larger national movement led by advocacy groups, healthcare professionals, and parents working to reduce preventable stillbirths. Efforts focus on increased awareness, fetal movement monitoring, maternal care improvements, and greater access to resources that can save lives.
Community members are encouraged to reflect as the bridge shines on September 19, honoring babies who are forever remembered and standing with families who continue to carry their memories.
