Pomona, NY โ This week, community leaders and elected officials gathered at the Rockland County Fire Training Center to celebrate the annual Buffalo Soldier Award ceremony. The prestigious award honors distinguished African-American veterans residing in Rockland County for their exemplary service to the nation.
This year’s honorees included Rev. Raymond Caliman, Alphonso Marshall, and Bertis Blanks. The three veterans were recognized for their bravery, dedication, and contributions to both their country and community. Town Supervisor George Hoehmann, along with Councilmembers Bob Axelrod and Mark Licker, joined officials from across Rockland to pay tribute to the awardees and all veterans present.
“We are deeply grateful to these heroes for their selfless service,” said Supervisor Hoehmann. “The Buffalo Soldier Award is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and commitment of our veterans.”
The ceremony served as both a celebration of individual achievements and a broader expression of gratitude to all veterans who have served.
