Clarkstown, NY โ After five days of intense community spirit and the Tappan Zee Bridge lit up in red, Clarkstown has emerged as the winner of the Five Towns of Rockland Blood Drive Challenge. Clarkstown took top honors for both the most blood collected and the highest number of newly registered Red Cross blood donors.
The American Red Cross set an initial goal of collecting 100 units of blood during the challenge, and that goal was exceeded with a total of 111 units collected across the five towns, with 64 of those donations coming from first-time donors. Stephanie Dunn Ashley played a key role in organizing the blood drives.
The results of the challenge are as follows:
- Clarkstown: 30 units, 18 first-time donors
- Orangetown: 27 units, 16 first-time donors
- Stony Point: 21 units, 12 first-time donors
- Ramapo: 18 units, 11 first-time donors
- Haverstraw: 15 units, 7 first-time donors
With only three percent of the population regularly donating blood, the participation of 64 new donors marks a significant boost to this vital cause.
“I am overwhelmed by the support we saw from the community,” said Senator Weber. “Thank you to everyone who donated, to the supervisors of the five towns for their help in promoting the drive, and a special thank you to Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny for personally donating blood.” .
Given the success of this inaugural event, the Five Towns of Rockland Blood Drive Challenge will now be an annual tradition, continuing to strengthen the community’s commitment to saving lives.
