POMONA, NY — In observance of National HIV Testing Day, the Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH) is offering a free, walk-in HIV testing clinic on Thursday, June 26, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at its Pomona location: 50 Sanatorium Road, Building A, Second Floor.
This event provides residents with a rare opportunity to get tested quickly, confidentially, and at no cost—no appointment necessary. While HIV testing is available year-round by appointment through other RCDOH services, this is the only time walk-in testing will be offered at this location.
HIV often presents no symptoms in its early stages, which is why routine testing is so crucial. According to national statistics, one in eight people living with HIV are unaware of their status. Early detection is key, as those who test positive can begin treatment that not only maintains their own health but can reduce the risk of transmission to others to nearly zero.
“Knowing your HIV status empowers you to make informed choices about your health,” said Dr. Mary Leahy, Rockland County Commissioner of Health. “We recognize HIV Testing Day to empower people with knowledge, reduce the stigma, and stop the spread of HIV. With proper treatment, people living with HIV can live long, full, and healthy lives.”
The Department of Health reminds attendees to bring a photo ID for testing. Pregnant individuals, or those planning to become pregnant, are especially encouraged to get tested to help prevent mother-to-child transmission.
For those unable to attend the walk-in clinic, year-round testing is also available through the following RCDOH services:
- Sexual Health Clinic – Call (845) 364-3771 for an appointment
- Family Planning Services Clinic – Call (845) 364-2531 for an appointment
