Rockland business owners gathered this week to pay a brief solemn tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
The networking group, which has been meeting regularly in Nanuet for the past 17 years, paused to honor the sacrifice made by those who fought to protect our freedoms, as well as pay their final respects to one of the group’s founders, David Isaacson, who recently passed away at the age of 94.
The tribute was initiated by Robert Salmon, a respected member of the BSPN, who called for a moment of silence following the group’s traditional pledge of allegiance. Addressing the approximately 30 members in attendance, Salmon reminded everyone of the significance of D-Day and the ultimate sacrifice made by the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who participated in the invasion of Normandy during World War II.
“As we stand here today, let’s take a moment to reflect on the bravery and selflessness of those who fought for our freedom on D-Day,” Salmon said. “Their courage and dedication have shaped the world we live in, and it is our duty to remember and honor their legacy.”
The room fell silent as members bowed their heads in respect, each person contemplating the magnitude of the sacrifices made 80 years ago. The poignant silence was a powerful reminder of the human cost of war and the enduring gratitude owed to those who served.
The BSPN (formerly named ProMetroNet), known for its strong community ties and support for various local causes, has long been a place where professionals come together not only to network but also to engage in meaningful conversations about history, society, and the responsibilities of citizenship.
The tribute to D-Day heroes was a fitting example of the group’s commitment to recognizing and honoring significant moments in history. As the moment of silence concluded, members shared their thoughts and reflections, creating a space of collective remembrance and appreciation.
