It could turn out to be Stony Point’s most anticipated event, ever.

STONY POINT NY – Stony Point has found itself in the throes of a full-blown caffeine crisis. In Stony Point.
The source of this collective jitter? The impending opening of a Dunkin’ Donuts at 291 Willow Grove Rd. — a location so convenient that it might just single-handedly save the morning commute of thousands from a caffeine-deprived driving experience.
The North Rockland Community Facebook Group, a bastion of local facts and figures (currently with 28.1K members) has recently been flooded with posts from residents plagued by a singular, burning question: “When is the Dunkin’ Donuts opening?” These posts, many of them anonymous, have reached a level of frequency that suggest the town is on the brink of a coffee apocalypse.
Indeed, if the anonymous voices are correct, the good people of Stony Point could be one missed Dunkin’ opening away from an outright revolt.
For weeks, rumors have been swirling faster than the cream in your iced coffee. “Next week,” some said. “Definitely tomorrow,” others have reported. And yet, every morning, the doors remain closed, and the good folks of Stony Point are forced to endure the harsh reality of driving past a darkened Dunkin’, cruelly denied their daily dose of caffeine before braving Palisades Parkway Exit 14:
Sunoco enthusiasts of the original Dunkin store, always quick to jump into the fray, have been reminding everyone, “Um, don’t forget about the gas.”
This past week, Rocky Alexander, owner of Rock’s Kitchen and unofficial investigator of all things caffeinated, took matters into his own hands. Armed with nothing but sheer determination, Rocky drove up to the elusive Dunkin’ location (approximately less than two miles from pretty much everything in Stony Point) and asked the question on everyone’s lips. “When are you opening?”

The response? A promising, “Next week.” Rocky, not one to leave his community hanging, promptly posted a video of this interaction, sparking a fresh wave of speculation and relief.
Unfortunately, questions still swirl:
Even Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan weighed in, officially declaring his excitement for the grand opening. “It’s going to be great to have Dunkin’ back in town,” he said, while gazing into the distance, and dreaming of the sweet scent of fresh coffee mingling with the morning air. We cannot confirm nor deny if tears welled up within.
Officials Chime In
Meanwhile, several non-Governmental sources, who have chosen to remain anonymous (because who wants to be the person who promises coffee and then disappoints), have hinted that the magic date might be Wednesday, September 4th. Mark your calendars, folks, but perhaps keep a backup plan just in case. Rockland News will report any updates to the magic date, in the interest of quelling any unfounded nervous anticipation. It’s a process, we know.
And then there’s North Rockland Chamber Secretary, Tom Ossa, whose half-Colombian heritage has apparently given him a coffee tolerance that could rival Juan Valdez’ legendary work ethic. Rumor has it that Tom is planning to be first in line after the Chamber’s ribbon cutting, ready to conduct “quality control evaluations.” After all, Ossa claims, “America may run on Dunkin’, but I simply run on coffee.” Ossa runs two companies, Rockland News and Rockland Web Design. He drinks his coffee black. “It’s a good reminder of the condition all our bank accounts should be in.”
So, there you have it, Stony Point. Keep your eyes on the Sunoco, your ears to the ground, and your fingers crossed. The Dunkin’ Donuts opening is imminent, and with it, the promise of a brighter, more caffeinated tomorrow.
But until that glorious day arrives, we’ll just have to keep speculating—and posting—because that’s what the North Rockland Community does, right?
