Rockland County Executive Ed Day is a weekly guest on AM Rockland News.

NEW CITY, NY – During his latest appearance on AM Rockland, County Executive Ed Day recounted the county’s response to a powerful storm that swept through the region, causing flash floods and water rescues. Day praised the rapid action of volunteer firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency medical technicians who responded to approximately 32 water-related dispatches. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Day emphasized the importance of public awareness, urging residents to avoid driving through flooded areas, as it puts both themselves and rescuers at unnecessary risk.
First West Nile Virus Mosquito Pool Detected
County Executive Day also confirmed the season’s first detection of West Nile Virus in a mosquito pool from Orangetown. While there have been no human cases this year, he reminded residents to eliminate standing water around their homes, including in items as small as bottle caps. Free larvicide “dunks” are available through the Rockland County Health Department by appointment at 845-364-3173.
Envision Rockland: A Call for Community Input
Discussing the Envision Rockland initiative, Day urged more residents to participate in the county’s comprehensive planning effort, which has not been updated since 2011. Through EnvisionRockland.com, community members can contribute ideas via an “ideas wall,” explore an interactive map, and sign up for public workshops. Day framed it as an opportunity for citizen-driven governance: “Every voice matters.”
Innovative Threat Prevention with RC-TAM
A significant highlight of the show was Rockland County’s rollout of the Threat Assessment Management (RC-TAM) team, a multidisciplinary coalition designed to prevent acts of violence before they occur. The team includes representatives from law enforcement, mental health, social services, and education. Day cited his own experience as a former chief of detectives to underscore the program’s value in early intervention. Residents can report concerns confidentially at RC-TAM’s website or by calling 845-708-7400.
Personal Note: Dealing with the Heat—Literally
On a lighter note, Ed Day shared his recent summer misadventure: a road trip to Cape Cod with a broken car air conditioner. “You really appreciate modern science when it stops working,” he joked, reminiscing about his days as an NYPD officer in non-air-conditioned patrol cars.
