Father Thomas, affectionately known as Tommy to his family and friends, was born on October 30th, 1945, in Washington, DC, to John and Mary Madden. Raised in White Plains, NY, Tommy’s journey to priesthood was marked by moments of laughter, friendship, and profound spiritual awakening.
His dedication to serving others led him to pursue the priesthood, a calling he wholeheartedly embraced. Ordained in 1976, Father Thomas embarked on a lifelong mission to spread God’s love and compassion to all whom he encountered.
Throughout his tenure, Father Thomas served at various parishes, including Saint Emeric, Saint Lucy’s, and Saint John Neumann, leaving an indelible mark on each community with his warmth and humor. His appointment to Old Saint Patrick in Little Italy in the wake of the September 11th attacks showcased his unwavering commitment to comforting those in need during times of crisis.
In 2002, Father Thomas found his spiritual home at St. Peter and St. Mary Church in Haverstraw, NY. Here, he poured his heart and soul into nurturing his parishioners, overseeing renovations, and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.
Father Thomas’s love extended far beyond the walls of the church. A devoted uncle, brother, and friend, he cherished every moment spent with his family, delighting in lively gatherings and sharing his trademark humor with all.
Today, as many gather to honor Father Thomas’s legacy, the family asks those who knew him, to “remember his boundless compassion, unwavering dedication, and infectious spirit. Though he may have left this earthly realm, his presence will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.”
