April, 2023
Dear Friend,
We are grateful to Fiona and her mom Jennifer for being the first story in our 2023 Become a Monthly Sustainer series. “We knew at 20 weeks gestation that Fiona was going to have a limb deficiency and heart defect. Because of her heart, she really couldn’t go through the limb-lengthening surgeries. So we decided upon an amputation, and we’ve never looked back since.
Luckily for us, we are in a school district that believes in what Jawonio does. The staff at Jawonio is so nice and you feel like family when you walk through the door. She began her related services in the Article 16 clinic with Mitch at age 5. And now at age 11, she has become stronger, more focused and continues to shine. She is active with her friends, continues to dance every week, and has been an honorary ‘player’ for the NY Knicks.
My husband and I know that she is as successful as she is now thanks to Jawonio. And as Mitch says in the video – Fiona has no limits!”

We want to thank Jennifer for sharing Fiona’s story with us.
Jawonio makes a promise to each person and every family that we will give your loved one the opportunities to reach their highest potential on their journey to independence. How can you help more families like the McCarthy’s and others yet to come? You can secure our future, and the future of our children and adults with special needs by becoming a monthly sustainer.
With your monthly gift starting at $7.50 per month you can change the world for people with all abilities. Your gift in April, during Autism Awareness Month every monthly gift will be matched and doubles the donation. We thank our anonymous donor their generosity in this effort.
