Rockland County, NY – Former Rockland County Corrections Officer John Kezek, 39, was sentenced on December 19, 2024, after pleading guilty to Tampering with Public Records in the First Degree and Official Misconduct. The sentencing, handed down by Judge Robert J. Prisco, follows Kezek’s admission to falsifying official records and engaging in inappropriate conduct while serving as a Corrections Officer.
Case Details
Kezek, who worked at the Rockland County Correctional Facility, admitted to making false entries in official records and exposing himself to a female inmate during the 2019 calendar year. These actions violated the trust placed in him as a law enforcement officer and undermined the integrity of his position.
Statement from District Attorney Walsh
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II condemned Kezek’s behavior, emphasizing that the mistreatment of prisoners will not be tolerated in Rockland County.
“As a Corrections Officer, the defendant, John Kezek, was given the trust and authority to protect all prisoners in the jail. The courage of these incarcerated women who came forward to report this sexual harassment cannot be understated,” said Walsh. “The actions of this individual in no way reflect the values and dedication shown every day by the true professionals of the Rockland County Corrections Division.”
Sentencing and Conditions
Kezek was sentenced to five years probation, with specific conditions related to drug and alcohol use. Additionally, an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, who was housed in the jail during the incidents.
Investigation and Prosecution
The case was investigated by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Special Investigations Unit and Special Victims Unit. The prosecution was led by First Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Devlin.
This case serves as a reminder that abuse of power and misconduct in correctional facilities will be met with accountability and justice.
