NEW CITY, NY — Keimoni Spinks, 27, of Spring Valley, was found guilty of two felony gun possession charges following a five-day bench trial in Rockland County Court, District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced.
The verdict, delivered by the Honorable Kevin F. Russo on January 20, 2026, concluded a case stemming from a July 29, 2024, traffic stop by Ramapo police. During the stop, initiated due to a vehicle’s excessively tinted windows, Spinks—who was a passenger—fled on foot while the driver remained at the scene.
Law enforcement officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered a 9mm semi-automatic pistol inside a bag on the front passenger-side floor. The firearm was loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber.
Surveillance footage captured Spinks fleeing the scene, and he was later identified by a Spring Valley police officer. At the time, Spinks was on parole for a 2018 felony conviction in Orange County for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Authorities apprehended Spinks at a Spring Valley hotel. DNA analysis later confirmed his genetic material on the bag containing the firearm.
Spinks was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. He is currently being held at Rockland County Jail without bail and is scheduled for sentencing on April 22, 2026.
District Attorney Walsh praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the case, including the Ramapo and Spring Valley Police Departments, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Lab, and the Forensic Investigation Center. The prosecution was led by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Melissa Fabi and Michael Thompson.
“My Office remains committed to prosecuting illegal gun possession and holding repeat violent offenders accountable to protect the safety of Rockland County residents,” Walsh said.
