HAVERSTRAW, NY — The 19th Annual North Rockland Community 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Bowline Point Park, promising a day of community spirit and support for two deserving local families. This year, the event will begin with registration at 7:30 AM, the children’s race will be at 8:30 am, followed by the 5k run/walk race at 9:30 AM.
“The North Rockland community has always shown immense heart and generosity,” said Howard T. Phillips, Jr., Supervisor of the Town of Haverstraw. “This event not only fosters community spirit but also supports our neighbors in their time of need. We invite everyone to join us, whether by running, walking, or cheering, to make a significant impact in the lives of Jacob and Jariel.”
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Jacob Lopez and Jariel Santiago, two residents of North Rockland who are courageously battling significant health challenges. Jacob, a four-year-old diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, requires a service dog to help manage his condition. Meanwhile, Jariel Santiago, a senior at North Rockland High School, has been fighting a cancerous germ cell tumor, leading to substantial medical debt for his family.

This year’s run will also honor Vincent Abbatecola and Bill Carpenter for their contributions to the community, along with local food pantries such as St. Peter’s/St. Mary’s and Immaculate Conception, highlighting the ongoing commitment to supporting those in need within the community.
