
HAVERSTRAW, NY – A 19-year-old Haverstraw resident was taken into custody Tuesday evening after a brief foot chase with police ended in the recovery of a loaded firearm, authorities said.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on September 2, 2025, officers with the Haverstraw Police Department observed Miciaih Cozart in the downtown business district of the Village of Haverstraw. Cozart, who was known to have multiple active warrants for his arrest, attempted to flee on foot when approached by officers.
During the pursuit, Cozart allegedly attempted to discard a loaded firearm into a nearby park on Main Street. Police were able to apprehend him shortly thereafter and successfully recovered the weapon.
Cozart was transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for arrest processing and later arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court. He was remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or a partially secured bond.
In addition to the outstanding warrants, Cozart is now facing the following charges:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Loaded Firearm) – Class C Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Firearm – Class E Felony
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property: Firearm – Class E Felony
- Resisting Arrest – Class A Misdemeanor
Authorities emphasized that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
